46% of Millennials, 45% of Gen Xers, and 30% of Boomers think it will take a “miracle” to retire. This according to the 2021 Natixis Global Retirement Index, as detailed in an article in Bloomberg Wealth.
The people surveyed had investable assets of at least $100,000, and half of those with a net worth of $1 million or more said they were resigned to having to work longer than they’d thought. Among the top worries were inflation, interest rates, and rising levels of public debt. “What shocks me is that these are the people doing pretty much all the right things and even that isn’t enough to feel secure,” said David Goodsell, executive director of Natixis Center for Investor Insight.
The survey is part of an annual study of the countries that have the best combination of government policies and economic environment to produce retirement security. The U.S. was 17 out of 44—down one spot from 2020—while Iceland, Switzerland, and Norway retained their perennial top three spots.
